The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2021: Digital Entertainment Award is now calling for entries

The Awards seek to recognise and honour the best works produced by the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Industry and to promote excellence in this field.

The Awards includes three Award Streams: Animation & Visual Effects, Entertainment & eSports Software and Interaction Design*.

*Art Tech project is newly added in this edition, including projects or products integrating technology and art / creative industries. In 2020 Policy Address of Chief Executive, the government will actively promote and support the development of Art Tech in Hong Kong.

 Winners will be entitled to free participation in some large-scale ICT events (e.g. International ICT Expo) for marketing exposure.

Application deadline: 16th July 2021 by 12:00 noon

Objective:

VAR has been well established and implemented in training for various industries in Hong Kong.  VAR technologies allow engineering trainees to virtually enter any restricted areas, perform different tasks and react to safety-critical and rare events.  It could maximize training safety and minimize risk.  VAR can help the trainees in improving their ability to react in emergency situations.  It could also support industries in reducing training cost. We shall also look into the effect of COVID-19 on the adoption of VAR for training. This webinar will invite experts from the industries for sharing their experience of these matters. We’re sure all participants should be benefit from attending the webinar.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2020 – Hong Kong Chapter Party : Virtual Hang Out in Cheung Chau


Due to the latest situation of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, the “Hong Kong Chapter Party-Virtual Hang Out in Cheung Chau” is cancelled.

Date: 13 December 2020 (Sunday)

Korea Time: 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m.

Hong Kong Time: 11:00 a.m.  – 12:30 p.m.

To e-meet with participants of SIGGRAPH Asia 2020, Hong Kong Chapter is going to have a BBQ activity on a beautiful and wonderful island in Hong Kong called “Cheung Chau Island” on 13 December at Korea Time 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm.  Cheung Chau Island is a traditional fishing village and embraces many traditional Hong Kong cultures.

While we’re eating the chicken wings and steaks with cans of beer in Cheung Chau, you can join us and have fun with us.  We will definitely show you the cultures and things on the island.  For instance,

–        Sight-seeing on the island

–        Watching dragonboat race

–        Looking at Cheung Chau Bun Festival and Bun Scrambling Competition

–        Demonstrating Taichi martial art

–        Touring the food market, etc.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2019

SIGGRAPH Asia 2019 was held in Brisbane, Australia on 17-20 November 2019.
Some of Hong Kong Chapter’s members flew to Brisbane to take part in SIGGRAPH Asia 2019. Besides attending the scheduled programmes / seminars of SIGGRAPH Asia, they participated in the chapters workshop held by organizer to discuss concerns and business specific to chapters including website and digital tools. Some also attended the larger ACM SIGGRAPH Volunteering meeting in which the next year event SIGGRAPH Asia 2020 was promoted that it will be held in Daegu, South Korea on 17-20 November 2020. Furthermore, the officers of Hong Kong Chapter also joined the Student Volunteer session to help promoting our ACM SIGGRAPH chapters to the student volunteers of SIGGRAPH Asia.
Last but not least, they took part in networking activities with other chapters, e.g. dinner gathering, reception, etc. to get to know more friends from other cities.

XR & VR Theater

Visit to HTC by Hong Kong ACM SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter

A group of 12 members of the Chapter paid a visit to HTC (Hong Kong) on 24 October 2019.  Staff of HTC arranged to demonstrate several VR projects which were being developed by the technical team, e.g. eye-ball tracking technology applied for training presentation or station officer, and other immersive VR projects like fork-lift truck, baseball hitting, etc.

Besides, HTC staff held a discussion on the applications of the new technology and shared their experience with us about the development.  Some members were interested and might consider trying the new things.

Computer Animation Festival Screening-SIGGRAPH Asia 2018 for Hong Kong Students

The Computer Animation Festival Screening-SIGGRAPH Asia 2018 (CAF Screening) was successfully completed on 11 April 2019. The event was essentially an appreciation activity and the MC of the event was a CG student.

In the event, we were honored to invite Mr. Alex LIM Hung Fung, the winner of the Best Visual Effects in the Asian Film Awards Academy, to give us a demonstration of visual effects.

During the event, Dr. Simon Shum, the Vice-Chair of the Hong Kong Chapter, introduced the audience the Hong Kong Chapter.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2019-Chengdu Sharing Meeting

On 19 April 2019, the SIGGRAPH Asia 2019 sharing meeting was organized in Chengdu, China.

During the meeting, Dr. Eric Liu, the Chair of Asia Chapters and Chair of Hong Kong Chapter, introduced the ACM SIGGRAPH Asia to the members of Chengdu Chapter.

Dr. Simon Shum, the Vice-Chair of Hong Kong Chapter, shared the experience of education and training for computer graphics (CG) talents in Hong Kong.

Mr. Gabriel Pang, the Chair of Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association, was invited to introduce the development of CG industry in Hong Kong.

Speakers from Chengdu and Shanghai were also invited to share the experiences of CG development in Chengdu and Shanghai.
